New Maserati Limousine
The Maserati Quattroporte defined the modern comeback of the company, and has been praised for its looks and its design the world over. Arguably, the most elegant way to ferry yourself and three well-heeled friends across the French Riviera, around the Italian Lakes or along Skegness Pier. But what if you've a pair of Great Danes and an Irish wolfhound to take along for the ride, too?
That’s when you need a more spacious supercar like the new luxury Maserati Estate. The Quattroporte prestige estate, a dog 'n' luggage-lugging supercar conversion from Italian coachbuilder Carrozzeria Touring. Although Maserati has had a hand in the project too, it claims it won't produce an estate car of its own because of the investment required.
Carozzeria was established over 80 years ago, and was responsible for a number of stunning designs including the likes of Ferraris, Alfa Romeos and even Aston Martins. Improving on such a stunningly beautiful and well-designed car as the Maserat was therefore quite a challenge, but Italian coachbuilder Carrozeria Touring felt it was up to the task with its estate version of the car, which it calls the Maserati Quattroporte Bellagio Fastback
Lengthening the roofline, repositioning the fuel tank and redesigning the rear seats so they can fold flat are just some of the alterations required. However, at around £200,000, which includes the donor car, Carrozzeria Touring, plans to build the estate on a made-to-order basis, which is hardly surprising. While it’s not cheap, how many other four-door, four-seater, big-booted supercars offer you a four-shotgun storage compartment with securing chain? A point which surely won’t go unnoticed by well healed shooting enthusiasts.
Once a supercar is modified the possibility that others may copy suit arises. Questions are probably already being asked like can it be stretched? And, what would make it a good standard long wheelbase sedan limousine? While a stretched Maserati wouldn’t be the first supercar to have been converted into a limousine, such conversions can’t help but ignite the motoring public’s curiosity and imagination. The idea of a chauffeur driven estate car? Could be a necessity for those who have everything.
